Competitions: Jested Cup 2000
On the level - considering the time this competition takes place - October - the odds of having decent weather (for the competition to take place) are quite low. Our hopes were high this year considering the weather forecast (usually does not work for Liberec) and we were also hoping for at least a bit of sunshine, but history repeated itself. The general rules are: it's either beautiful, sunny but no wind, or it's freezing, rain, fog ....whatever...and nice strong wind. Well...choose...
Fog was waiting for us when we arrived at the slope, but it was a good sign in one way - it can always break up. The wind was great, visibility worse. After determing the wind direction (completely different from the forecast ) we decided to go to the chapel. Serious fog. So the first important thing was to find some wood and make a fire for the frankfurters. This almost became a tradition since the weather wasn't on our side for the past couple of years. Some courageous ones were testing their machines in the morning fog - scary as your plane disappears...
After a while we witnessed an unusual thing - the fog set off in to the valley and a beautiful inversion occurred.. Unfortunately the fog came back. But at the end the sun finally broke through and we started flying.
The wind, however, was playing games with us and we had to move to the Eastern slope. Southeast wind of approx.. 2m/s was enough for some fun for everybody, but not enough for a competition.
In the afternoon we were on our way back to the chapel - not everybody, but mainly the domestic ones. We gave it a try a couple of times, finished left over food and ended a nice day.
