Models: Future
My colleagues from Jablonec got more pieces of this model and I managed to buy one extra piece. At the time this description was posted the original holder didn't start the assembly of his own model yet.
The Future model kit is made by LS Model - Leoš Svoboda from Lovosice - in different versions: classical glider model; slope soaring model with a larger wing chord; and a smaller F5B category model. It is the last mentioned type that I have. It wasn't, however, made as an electro version but the model has a removable nose section and thanks to this you can simply replace the regular nose section wit an electrified one. The model can be disassembled in to several parts which comes in handy. It all fits in to a bag made by my wife.
I was glad that the wing and elevator wasn't coated since I like to do at least something by myself on each model.
Wing:
The wings is splitted in to three parts. the polystyrene core is strengthened with carbon and sheeted with veneer. I also had to equip the center of the wing with flaps since they were missing. The wing is set with 4 servos - 2 for ailerons and two for flaps - all four HITEC HS80; MG now since the plastic gear on the flaps lasted for about a week). The flap servos our sticking out a bit due to the low thickness of the wing; as for the ailerons I managed to hide these under a cover.
I had to make myself the connecting pieces to link the wing parts together. These are made of hard alluminium and then inserted in to fiberglass caskets in the wings.
Coating:
Wings are coated with iron on foil (Solarfilm) the same way as my older model from LS model co. (Mini Optima) - here I prefer a clear color difference between the upper and lower part of the wing.
Fuselage:
The fuselage is made of fiberglass and in stressful areas strengthened with carbon. The elevator (T-tail) is controlled by Hitec HS85BB servo placed in the keel (I also planned to gear up the rudder but it didn't happen yet). The servo is attached by double side adhesive tape and secured by a molding so that it does not come unstuck (bad experience with Mini Optima). The fuselage is strengthened with plywood and fiberglass under the wing area. The wing is attached to the fuselage using plastic bolts M5. The receiver is as far in the back of the fuselage as possible and I use extension cables for the necessary connections.
The model is also equipped with a acoustic alarm for batteries and signal since I managed to take off with low batteries in the past. Considering that sometimes we have fly at the Pines slope I equipped the plane with an electro nose section as well. This is just to gain some altitude after take off and to have some power in reserve for the landing. I use a Palička engine VM24/12, Graupner Cam folding Prop 230/120 with 7 cell Sanyo 1000 SCR pack. It is about enough for a 90 second flight, which is sufficient for flights in F5BN (only one flight however).
Parameters:
| Wingspan: | 2100 mm |
| Length: | 1130 mm |
| Weight: | |
| Airfoil: | S7012 |
| Servos: | 4x HS80 + 1x HS85BB |
Characteristics:
Characteristics are good in my opinion. I only had some troubles with the flaps in the beginning as I was not used to them. This caused slight accidents due to stall speed.
I had to replace the center part of the wing which (not worth the repair), after a serious crash, when I spent 2 hours searching for the plane a getting it down from a tree.
