Models: Rio
Rio is a fully moulded CFK/GFK F3F slope glider. The wing is supplied in one piece with a carbon-strengthened girder, which makes it quite tough (but to get in your smaller car can sometimes be a puzzle and you do need to find a system). I have my model equipped with flaps, which make the landings much easier on our slopes (lack of space sometimes) and can be used for other additional mix functions. The model can be flown form 2 m/s up to whatever you feel like. Rio flies very well in thermals due to its low wing load.
Designed by:
Gerald Zauner, Austria.
Manufactured by:
Petr Diblík (www.dsmodel.cz)
Construction:
The model is supplied almost ready to fly including aluminum pushrods for the V-tail inside the fuselage. I just had to fit in the RC equipment - wing servos and pushrods for flaps and ailerons in the wing, make a servo bearing for the fuselage (3 mm ply), adjust the length of the pushrods, install the servos and connect all the RC equipment (on/off switch, extension cables, etc.). Then I had to make the canopy lock, balance the model and I was ready for the first test flight. If you have all the necessary equipment, you can have the plane ready during one day or evening.

Characteristics:
The CG is very important here for the first flight. I hade mine "a bit" nose heavy and my hands full during the first flight, especially right after launch. When the model is balanced and trimmed the flight is without problems. I just had to lower the angles on the ailerons and the V-tail since Rio responds very quickly and precisely even with lower angles. Thanks to its wide range of speed and low wing load Rio flies great in low winds but you can fly this plane also in strong winds but ballast would be useful in this case. All the crazy things you want to perform with your plane are no problem for Rio. Low fly-by's, landings with flaps or CROW brake are beautiful.
Since it will already be two years I have this plane it has suffered afew scars. Unfortunately, I was informed by the manufacturer that he stopped the production of this model. BUT, he also informed me that he is working on a successor. I wonder, RIO 2? I can't wait Peter!
