Models: Twometer
If I would have the time a strength I wouldn't hesitate and build a new one of these models (lighter, prettier..), known in Liberec as the "Twometer" (weird, the wingspan is 2,1 meters).
Designed by:
Svoboda, Lovosice
Fuselage - fiberglass; plywood barriers with girders (pine) in the cockpit - these form individual sections for batteries, receiver and servos
Wings - polystyrene core, fiberglass coating, 2 girders (pine), pine wood entering edge, balsa ailerons
Elevator, rudder - balsa wood, older version with T tail (see picture bellow)
Parameters:
| Wingspan: | 2100 mm |
| Length: | 1080 mm |
| Weight: | approx. 2300 g (after a lot of repair work and epoxy parties); new model approx.. 1800 g |
| Airfoil: | E178 |
| Wing area: | 49 dm2 |
| Wing load: | 46,9 g/dm2 |
| Controlled elements: | rudder + ailerons, elevator (floating) some versions are equipped with a break parachute, but not in this case although there is a space for the extra servo in the fuselage from the beginning ...didn't have the time or something like that.....but it's possible to land without it once you get the hang of it... |
| Drive: | elevator, rudder, ailerons: 2 girders glued with epoxy rudder mechanically coupled with ailerons through a lever in the fuselage |
| Servos: | 1x rudder + ailerons, 1x elevator |
Characteristics:
The model seems to be unbreakable and can withstand the deadliest looking crashes without severe damage (it was the fuselage that broke most of the times but after several repairs it became hard as steel). The wings thanks to their construction don't suffer that much (please notice on one of the pictures the contours of a molehill that was almost cut off when the plane was forced to land due to interference). However, you can tell the ten years of operation after looking closer.
It is suitable for stronger winds. You can steer pretty good even at low speed but once goes under its minimum and in low altitude you're in trouble - it takes him a while to gain speed again. In good conditions it's a pleasure to fly with this plane. Fast, skillful once he's got the speed (I've tried to go as fast as possible and no signs of self destruction). Once you loose speed it gets pretty lazy but like I said you can steer it good even at low speed.
This model is also suitable for beginners (for its wide range of speeds and toughness and good maneuverability) that would like to try out something with controlled ailerons.
